Sinopse

What sort of Latin biblical text did Pelagius have when he wrote his commentary on the Pauline Epistles? Did he use an Old Latin text, a Vulgate text, or some combination of the two? Of the manuscripts that pass down Pelagius&rsquo,s commentary, some have a strong Vulgate character while others are closer to the Old Latin. Is there any way to decide between the variant readings in the different manuscripts? Pelagius&rsquo,s comments provide us with such an opportunity. By examining the language used in his comments, it becomes evident that Pelagius used a Vulgate text. This confirms the notion that the Vulgate for the Pauline Epistles existed by the early 5th century.
